MY APPROACH TO THERAPY

I take an integrative approach, blending insights and techniques from multiple evidence-based therapies to reflect the complexity of human experience. This allows me to tailor the work to your unique goals, challenges, and strengths, rather than following a single model. This flexibility allows us to explore your experiences in a way that feels relevant and effective, while creating space for deeper self-understanding and lasting change.

For a deeper look at themes that often arise in therapy, you can explore my blog, where I share reflections on topics I frequently encounter in my clinical practice.

How I Tailor My Work

Every client brings a unique constellation of experiences, challenges, and strengths, and my approach is shaped around that individuality. I draw from multiple therapeutic methods, weaving together techniques that resonate with your goals and the way you process change.

Sessions are collaborative and exploratory: we notice patterns, try out new ways of thinking and acting, and adapt as your understanding deepens. Rather than following a rigid protocol, I attend to the pace of your growth, creating a space where curiosity, reflection, and practical exercises come together. The work is both structured and fluid, providing guidance while leaving room for your insight and creativity to shape the process.

What You Gain from Therapy

Clients often leave sessions with more than just insight. You may begin to approach challenges with greater steadiness and clarity, discovering practical ways to respond differently in daily life and making decisions with greater confidence.

Relationships can shift too, as you relate to others with increased attunement and authenticity, deepening connection and understanding. For those navigating high-pressure work or creative pursuits, therapy can illuminate patterns that limit focus or motivation, offering strategies to transform pressure into purpose.

Across all areas, the work fosters resilience, clarity, and the ability to act intentionally, so that the understanding gained in sessions can ripple out into meaningful change in everyday life.

Therapies I Draw From

I’m trained in a variety of methods, allowing me to tailor my approach to your unique goals and needs.

Here are a few of the therapeutic approaches I draw from in my work, along with how they can help.

  • What it is

Narrative Therapy is a strengths-based approach that sees you as the author of your own life. It explores the stories you tell about yourself and your experiences, and how these shape your perspective and sense of identity. The focus is on uncovering and expanding narratives that reflect your values, strengths, and aspirations, rather than being defined by problems.

    How I use this approach

Together, we explore how recurring patterns and stories have influenced your life. I help you notice moments of resilience, intention, and capability, highlighting previously unrecognized strengths and possibilities. This collaborative process supports you in reframing experiences and developing richer, more empowering narratives.

    How it helps

Narrative Therapy is particularly valuable for exploring recurring patterns, personal identity, and the meaning you make of experiences. Within my integrative approach, it complements other methods by supporting reflection, self-understanding, and the creation of hopeful, strengths-based perspectives.

  • What it is

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a collaborative, goal-oriented method designed to support change and build intrinsic motivation. It focuses on exploring ambivalence, identifying personal values, and strengthening commitment to meaningful actions, rather than imposing change from outside.

    How I use this approach

Together, we explore your goals and the factors that may be supporting or hindering progress. I help you clarify what matters most, weigh options, and identify small, achievable steps toward change. The focus is on conversation, reflection, and supporting your own motivation to take action.

    How it helps

Motivational Interviewing is especially helpful when you feel stuck, uncertain, or ambivalent about making changes in your life. Within my integrative approach, it complements other therapies by providing a collaborative way to explore readiness for change and develop practical strategies aligned with your values.

  • What it is

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples is a structured approach that helps partners understand and transform patterns of emotional interaction. It focuses on identifying and expressing underlying feelings and attachment needs, fostering greater emotional connection and responsiveness within the relationship.

    How I use this approach

Together, we explore the cycles of interaction that contribute to conflict or disconnection. I help you and your partner identify unmet needs and underlying emotions, and we practise expressing them in ways that increase understanding and closeness. The process is collaborative, creating a safe space to strengthen trust and connection.

    How it helps

EFT is especially useful for couples experiencing repeated conflicts, emotional distance, or difficulty connecting. Within my integrative approach, it supports partners in deepening emotional intimacy, improving communication, and developing secure attachment patterns.

  • What it is

Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT) helps you explore how beliefs and thoughts influence emotions and behaviours. It encourages awareness of self-defeating beliefs and gently challenges patterns that may contribute to stress, frustration, or low mood. REBT focuses on developing rational, flexible thinking while fostering self-acceptance and personal responsibility.

    How I use this approach

Together, we examine recurring thoughts and beliefs that may be contributing to difficulties. I support you in noticing rigid or unhelpful patterns and exploring more balanced ways of thinking. The work involves discussion, reflection, and practical exercises to help you respond to challenges with greater clarity and flexibility.

    How it helps

REBT is particularly useful when negative self-talk, perfectionism, or rigid thinking contributes to emotional distress. Within my integrative approach, it provides tools for challenging unhelpful beliefs, managing anxiety or frustration, and building a more resilient, adaptive mindset.

  • What it is

Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) helps people who struggle with self-criticism, shame, or harsh inner judgment. These patterns often contribute to emotional difficulties like anxiety or depression. CFT focuses on cultivating self-compassion, helping you treat yourself with the same care and understanding you would offer a friend, while fostering kindness toward others.

    How I use this approach

Together, we explore the impact of self-criticism and shame, practising ways to respond with compassion. I guide you through exercises to strengthen emotional balance and self-soothing, helping you notice and shift unhelpful patterns. The focus is on building resilience, self-awareness, and the capacity to face challenges with kindness toward yourself.

    How it helps

CFT is especially useful when self-criticism or shame is a central factor in your difficulties. Within my integrative approach, it cultivates emotional regulation, inner safety, and a supportive relationship with yourself, complementing other methods that focus on thinking patterns or life narratives.

  • What it is

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) helps you approach life’s challenges with openness and purpose. Instead of trying to push away difficult thoughts or feelings, ACT encourages acceptance of what is outside your control while focusing on actions that reflect your values. The goal is to live a meaningful life, even when stress, pain, or uncertainty are present.

    How I use this approach

Together, we explore your thoughts and feelings, noticing them without becoming overwhelmed. Through mindfulness exercises and values exploration, we identify patterns and opportunities for choice and action. The focus is on building flexibility and awareness so that you can respond to challenges in ways that align with what matters most to you.

    How it helps

ACT is especially useful for supporting people facing stress, anxiety, or self-doubt, or those seeking greater clarity and alignment with their values. Within my integrative approach, it helps strengthen presence, resilience, and confidence across personal and professional contexts.
